Why We Don't Want to Keep Clients Long-Term

Yes, you read the title correctly.  We don’t want to keep clients for the long-term.  

“Nicole, you’re crazy!  That’s revenue for the business, why don’t you want long-term clients?!”

Forgive me for the (ew) click-bait(ish) title of this blog post.  The title could also read, “We want to provide a life-long education to empower and enable our clients to live simply and create a fitness habit that is sustainable for their life-time”.  

Our goal is not to retain clients that are dependent on our service to maintain whatever physical goals they have.  Our goal is to also provide the WHY behind each and every program we create.  We strive to make the connection between our client’s goals to their body, mind, and abilities so that they are empowered to realize the importance of fitness.  Each program we create is like a fine italian bespoke suit.  It is created, tailored, fitted, and altered as needed, just for that one and only client.  Not only do we create the program, we provide a thorough education on why we prescribed a certain exercise regimen. 

Understanding fitness as it pertains to a client’s biomechanics, anatomy, and physiology is absolutely imperative to maintaining fitness throughout his/her lifetime.  Knowing how to do an overhead barbell military press is much different than understanding why and what that affects and how it benefits you specifically in the short and long-term.

With all of that said, we do have long-term clients who have stuck with us. There are many reasons clients utilize personal training.  Some use it for short stints to begin a journey into fitness, to get back on track, and some clients utilize personal training as a lifetime tool because they simply enjoy being motivated by a trainer.  We have a mixture of all three types of clients.     

Fitness isn’t just a 3 month, 6 month, or 1 year endeavor that is over once your goals are met.  A trainer’s program should only be the beginning of an education to health and your individual body that enables you to create a fitness habit that lasts for your entire life.
